Do you like working out? Is helping people your passion? Do you have a goal of making a genuine difference in other people’s lives? Has anyone ever told you that you would be a good personal trainer?

If the answer is yes to those questions, you likely have the passion necessary to succeed. What Exactly Does a Personal Trainer Do?

Often, the motivation provided by a professional trainer is what encourages individuals to push through challenging exercises, whether it be squats, push-ups, or burpees, or simply getting to the gym for early morning sessions.

As a Top Tier Personal trainer, you will work one-on-one with clients to assess their strengths and weaknesses. Based on those results, you will design an exercise program to improve their physical fitness. You will motivate, educate and give them direction to pursue a healthy lifestyle. This education will also cover proper technique, general health and nutrition consultation.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) in 2016, personal trainers are recognized as the primary professionals in the fitness sector. The DOL further detailed the role of trainers within this industry:

  • Working with a single client one on one or small group training
  • Training within a gym, outside or in clients’ homes
  • Assessing client levels of physical fitness and helping set and reach fitness goals safely
  • Demonstrating various exercises and helping clients improve their exercise techniques
  • Maintaining records of clients’ exercise sessions to monitor clients’ progress towards fitness goals
  • Advising clients on how to modify their lifestyles outside of the gym to improve fitness

What makes it Great?

As obesity rates continue to climb, fitness trainers have the opportunity to significantly improve individuals’ health over the long term. Their roles extend beyond traditional gym environments; they can be found in diverse settings such as hospitals, corporate wellness programs, private residences, and outdoor boot camps. For more information and statistics, visit www.tfah.org.

Current Fitness Industry Overview

The total number of gym memberships in the United States rose from 40.3 million in 2009 to 57.3 million in 2017, as Americans have become increasingly more interested in personal fitness, especially in light of worsening nationwide health trends. This heightened focus on fitness and wellness has enabled the field of personal training to thrive, with an estimated 6.5 million Americans using personal-training services in 2014, up from 4 million in 1999, according to the International Health, Racquet and Sports club Association (IHRSA).

HOW CAN I BECOME A Top Tier Personal Trainer?

Every year, thousands of individuals consider switching careers. The majority decide to change for full-time employment, and a small percentage look at supplemental income opportunities. These individuals consider starting a new path as a personal trainer. Most have no idea how to make this transition a reality.

FIRST THING THAT COMES TO MIND? Dream job sign #1.jpg

DREAM

What do I do next? Should I go back to school for a degree? Shadow a personal trainer at a local gym? Get Certified? Buy Personal Trainer 101 books? If you are like the 99.9% of the individuals considering a career change, you have absolutely no idea or clue where to start.

Let us discuss the above options.

Should I go back to school for a degree?

  • Earn a degree in exercise science or kinesiology.
  • Learn all about anatomy and physiology, biochemistry and exercise physiology.
  • But I am middle-aged. Do I want to start going to frat parties?
  • More than likely will take 4-6 years to graduate. Will not have any practical hands-on training experience.
  • Will cost tens of thousands of dollars and will sink me into further debt.
  • Will not prepare me for the day-to-day personal training business. Does not teach program design, nutritional application, or business management.

Shadow a Trainer at a Local Gym?

  • Most of these trainers will be self-taught or weekend certified.
  • They will have horrible habits and methods.
  • They will tell you how great they are, yet they only train a few hours a week.

Get Certified as a Personal Trainer?

  • Faster than going to school for 4-6 years. Usually internet study.
  • Cost varies from $150-$1,200. No regulation and no guarantee of the program quality.
  • Minimum anatomy and physiology background—just enough to possibly injure a client.
  • The certificate you earn will look good in a frame on the wall.
  • After taking a multiple-choice exam, you can tell people you are a trainer.

Buy Personal Trainer 101 Books?</h3

  • After reading the first few chapters, you will be more confused.
  • Most individuals are visual learners and reading a book will do more damage than good.
  • Most will agree this is not an option.

Future of the Fitness Industry

With the continued evolution of the industry and intensified consumer demand for tailored health and fitness solutions, employment of personal trainers is expected to increase by 10% over the 10-year period between 2016 and 2026. The projected growth is attributed to several factors, including:

  • Increasing number of baby boomers who want to stay healthy, physically fit and independent
  • Increase in businesses opening on-site fitness facilities and offering incentives for employees to join gyms
  • Growing concerns about childhood obesity have prompted parents to increasingly invest in tailored fitness programs for their children.
  • There is a notable increase in health club memberships among young adults focused on improving their physical fitness.
  • An older demographic is seeking personalized exercise solutions to manage conditions like arthritis and other health issues.

Personal training is a great career choice. It is probably not the easiest profession to be in, but it can definitely be a Healthy and rewarding Career choice. What can be more rewarding than working directly with people helping them live a healthy lifestyle and live many more years overall? But that does not mean it is the right career path everyone.

Successful personal trainers are excited and motivate and educate clients. As a fitness professional you must have exercise science knowledge and practical experience to guarantee your client’s fitness goals. Personal trainers are their best advertisement for training, dedication, and results. Aside from their knowledge of nutrition and fitness, it’s their ability to motivate clients and inspire them to invest in a healthier lifestyle.

Wondering what skills, you must possess to become a qualified/certified personal trainer in Florida? Here are some essential skills that will help you be successful in this dynamic and exciting career field.

Skills for Successful Personal Trainers

To qualify as a personal trainer, it is important you maintain the skills that show an element of leadership, credibility, passion, and commitment. Exhibiting these key factors can help you attract more prospective clients, develop an incredible rapport in the industry, and be perceived as someone who is not only educated and qualified but trustworthy as well.

Industry Skills

Low carb, high protein? Effective supplements to help your clients burn out fat faster? Short bursts of high-intensity training? Personal trainers are required to be on top of their game all the time. As a qualified personal trainer, you need to have Nutrition education regarding different diet plans, food benefits, and the latest technology and equipment. Being on the cutting edge of rising nutrition and fitness trends can allow personal trainers to prevent their clients from injuring themselves and meet their nutritional goals.

As a personal trainer, you must be well-educated in the understanding towards:

  • The Principles of Nutrition
  • Health History reports and questionnaires
  • Knowledge of Physiology
  • Knowledge of Anatomy
  • First Aid and CPR Certified
  • Designing Exercise Programs and rehabilitation

Interpersonal and Leadership Skills

Let’s face it, every client faces difficulties in the initial stages while adopting a fitness program. It’s not easy to stick to a new exercise and diet plan – for some, it can be a daunting experience, especially for those who are chronically obese or those who lived sedentary lifestyles. Venturing on a rigorous and consistent exercise program can come with its fair share of highs and lows.

It is easier to keep your clients motivated when they are hitting their first fitness goals. However, it is difficult to keep the morale high when they just want to quit and ready to throw the towel. This is the part where you must motivate and keep them on track. As a personal trainer, your job is to ensure your client constantly has high levels of motivation and quitting never becomes part of the equation.

Give your clients examples from your personal life – the struggles, the hardships, and things that kept you motivated. This is one of the most effective techniques for bringing your clients back on track when they fall off the wagon. Demonstration of care and commitment towards your client re-affirms their success towards their goals.

No matter how many clients you train in a day, each one of them deserves your full energy and undivided attention. These clients depend on you to live a healthy lifestyle. 01 March

Do you work out? Do you have a passion for helping other people attain a healthier lifestyle? Would you like to be a professional personal trainer and make a great healthy living? If the answer is yes, you need to go attend a hands-on personal training school and get certified.

There are plenty of benefits to being a personal trainer. Think about it – you get to make a real difference in people’s lives, and the best part is, you get to make great money. But before you get started, there is something you need to understand. To have a career in personal training, getting certified from an Accredited personal training school is critical. Remember, education is the foundation of all your skills. It also proves to your clients that you are a fitness professional and they are in safe hands.

Why Getting Certified as A Personal Trainer Is Important?

You must have seen people hire professional personal trainers for their fitness and health goals, and these trainers are paid thousands of dollars as a professional. What makes these Fitness professionals in demand, and why is their Fitness business different than on-line Trainers? Well, it is the education and practical knowledge that makes all the difference in the world. Here are some of the key reasons why getting certified by an Accredited school is important:

Knowledge of Fitness Equipment

One might argue that gym equipment usually comes with an instruction manual, and most of them are easy to use. However, keeping the right posture and proper form is essential in preventing injuries. There are many individuals who try using Fitness equipment all by themselves and end up harming themselves in the process. In most cases, individuals often hire personal trainers to aid them in their fitness journey, trusting their skills and experience as Professional Personal fitness trainers.

But ask yourself, would you be able to coach your clients the right way unless you do not possess the right education and practical experience? Attending a personal training school such as NPTI Florida will only add more professionalism and credibility to your business, keeping your Fitness business ahead of your competition.

As a Personal trainer, you know how severely your clients can harm themselves without proper form while working out. Back injuries, torn muscles, fractures, excessive swelling – are just the tip of the iceberg. When you get certified from a Licensed Educational facility, you will have the education and hands-on experience to help them achieve their fitness goals.

Maximum Results

Some of your clients might come to you with a problem like, “I’ve been lifting weights for a while now and haven’t seen any positive results in my physical appearance. Am I doing something wrong?” Questions like these often end up discouraging your clients, making them feel lost.

A certified fitness trainer can help clients understand their physical limits and change their workout regime based on their present health condition. To attain maximum results, certified personal trainers can constantly change workout programs for their clients, giving them a path forward. Attending a personal training school ensures you are a qualified Fitness Professional.

General Fitness Consultation

Personal trainers should know about fad workouts and fad diets that people usually are buzzing about it. As a personal fitness trainer, you should be able to educate your clients on Nutritional consultation and advice.

Experienced and qualified fitness trainers know what is best for their clients. In some cases, working every day of the week is not the best thing for the client. Personal trainers with the right education can guide their clients in the right direction and make better choices to meet their health and fitness goals. Your client usually has many exercise challenges, that is why they have hired a professional Personal Trainer.

Benefits of Being A Certified Personal Trainer

Most personal trainers love their job as they get to make a positive contribution to their client’s lives. But what are some of the other benefits of being a personal trainer and a fitness professional? If you are looking to pursue a career in the fitness industry, here are some of the key benefits to get you motivated.

  • You Do What You Love
This is perhaps the most obvious reason of all. As a Personal trainer, you work every day doing what you love. If you are looking to be a fitness trainer, chances are that you love working out and spending time in the gym – then why not make a career out of it?Imagine this – you are guiding all your clients through different training sessions, developing workout plans for them, demonstrating the right way to use the equipment, and giving them fitness advice. Doesn’t that make you happy? Surely it does. This is the life of a personal trainer, every single day of the week. Want to know the best part? You get to access the latest fitness equipment for your education course. If you are not familiar with the latest fitness trends and equipment, your client deserves the latest.
  • A Healthier Career
Do you think people are living healthier lives nowadays? With all that junk food and endless streams of cars on drive-throughs, people are constantly making bad health-related choices. However, being a certified personal trainer, you can educate your clients on proper nutrition.Did you know? One of the biggest reasons for an inactive lifestyle is a 9-5 work schedule. Sitting all day in the same position for 9-10 hours a day can surely ruin your health and may even cause back problems. But as a fitness trainer, you do not have that struggle. Your job requires you to stay fit, eat healthily and most importantly, not sit behind a desk all day. As a certified personal trainer, you will have an active routine and enjoy a better lifestyle compared to those in an office.
  • Flexible Income potential
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) an average, fitness instructors start out earning $40,390 first year in the industry. But there is no limit to how far you can go in terms of earning. As your client base increases, the more you will earn annually. The best thing about being a certified personal trainer is that you can pursue it as a full-time career or a part-time – based on your schedule and income requirement.
  • Flexible Career Options
The flexibility of work can extend as far as having your own fitness business. Imagine being the boss of your brand and slowly develop a strong and credible rapport in the industry. When it comes to being a personal trainer, there are plenty of options. You can be any one of the following:

    • Boot camp owner
    • Yoga Instructor
    • Online personal trainer and health coach

Taking advantage of your extraordinary ability and potential to improve others’ health and wellness can be both personally fulfilling and financially rewarding. Besides, NPTI Florida (NPTI Orlando & NPTI Tampa) will help you establish your professional career quickly and successfully once you receive our Diploma.

As a certified personal trainer, you might be facing multiple challenges in your new business. To overcome those challenges, you need tried-and-tested education from our instructors. With years of experience in the fitness industry, NPTI Florida has a long history of certifying personal trainers, equipping them with the right education and hands-on training to start their own fitness business.

If you are just starting your business as a personal fitness trainer, it’s time you learn a few tips that can help you capitalize on the opportunities that exist within the industry. Even if you’ve been in the industry for quite some time, the personal training business changes rapidly, and tactics that may have worked for you a couple of years back may not be effective today.

Success depends on combining fitness expertise with traits, business tips, and soft skills that help you connect with clients and grow your reputation. To help you find your edge in this highly competitive industry, NPTI Florida has created a list of 12 proven tips that can help you boost your personal training business.

Find Your Specialty

Fitness experts need to have their strengths well-presented to their clients. A clear specialty makes you stand out and gives people confidence in your knowledge. If you don’t have a particular specialty, it will make your customers feel you’re not an expert on anything, and you don’t want that.

Decide what kind of clients you’re going to be serving – whether it’s athletes, men/women over the age of 40, postnatal or prenatal women, youngsters between the ages of 15-35, or professionals looking to add some physical activity to their daily routine.

  • Don’t know how to find your specialty? Start by asking yourself these questions:
  • Where will the fitness training take place?
  • What kind of clients do you serve the most? People looking to lose weight or hard-gainers
  • What type of personal training specialty certification are you looking to receive?
  • Will you be providing the service yourself, or do you have partners or employees to do that?

Know Your Role in the Business

Ok, so you need to know how involved you’re going to be with different aspects of your business. Do you want to train as a freelancer, open your own studio, or build a digital fitness model with apps and virtual programs? Defining your role helps you plan smarter.

Determine Your Time Availability

Whether you want to pursue this career part-time or full-time, you’re only going to be available for a certain period of the day. So, it would help if you were realistic with your timings, i.e., how much time you will be investing in your business. Consistency is key; clients respect trainers who stay reliable with their time commitments.

Experience Is Important

Getting practical experience in training clients allows you to understand the different needs of your clients. Remember, most people looking for personal trainers often find it challenging to maintain discipline.

Experience helps you build the patience, communication, and motivational skills that keep clients committed long-term. You need to learn how to motivate them and set goals according to their needs and fitness requirements. It will also give you enough exposure to how to handle different fitness equipment.

Gaining experience will also help you better understand how much clients are willing to pay for your services, your potential income, and other necessary knowledge.

Legal Compliance

As a professional in an industry, you need to make sure your business has legal compliance. Therefore, you must follow all the legal protocols to protect your business from tax laws and legal complications.

Get Certified from NPTI Florida (Orlando/Tampa)

Professional Education prepares you for what lies ahead – it gives you credibility and the business management to kickstart your company. National Personal Training Institute (NPTI) offers all kinds of fitness CEUs, general and specialized, to make sure you stay updated on the latest modalities and science to deliver the best training experience to your clients.

Offer Initial Consultation

Don’t jump right into training; offer them a free consultation session where you can learn more about their needs and expectations. Personal Trainers need to learn about the goals, expectations, and needs, and any other physical limitations or medical conditions the client might have. Not many fitness trainers offer such detailed consultations to their clients, which will set you apart from the competition.

However, for being a top-tier personal trainer, there are certain requirements to be fulfilled. These are for your own and your client’s benefit. Here are the core prerequisites highlighted to promise you a fantastic and successful personal trainer career once you graduate from NPTI:

Zealousness

It is your passion that motivates you to learn more and gain expertise in your field. To be a successful fitness trainer, you must be passionate about the workout. Being zealous in helping your clients achieve their fitness aims has to be your strongest quality.

Your positive and energetic attitude is something that is thrown back onto your clients. If you can maintain a strong bond with them, you will inspire them. Your training sessions will become very enjoyable and productive for you and your client with your passion.

Professionalism

Hygiene, punctuality, and proper attire are some of the most prominent qualities of a great fitness trainer. If you create good examples for your clients, they will value and like you very much. Your own sound health and physique are your publicity and advertisement. Being an active and committed personal trainer will help you get your clients’ confidence and retain them.

Personability

For a Personal Trainer, it is imperative to be a people person. You can retain your clients only if you know how to do it. It is possible to maintain healthy relationships with them if you are pure and sincere towards them. If your clients notice your compassion, you are more likely to maintain a long-term relationship with them.

Being their Personal Trainer, your clients expect you to help them transform into their desired body shape. They quickly notice your dedication and devotion towards them.

Patience

Getting into perfect shape and size is not an easy task. The desired result requires dealing with several challenges and can be time-consuming. Some situations are discouraging and frustrating during the training phases. The best Personal Trainer is the one who is forbearing and considerate.

They understand that everybody is different and does not advance at the same pace. Nonetheless, depending on the client’s specific body type, the training program can be started.

Transformation

The approach of a Trained Personal Trainer is different from that of an ordinary trainer. He/she organizes training sessions for every client differently. He/she comes across clients with different natures and temperaments and remains flexible with them.

It is important to differentiate between the various needs and desires of clients. A good Personal Trainer customizes the client’s training program and always looks forward to making variations accordingly.

Good Knowledge and Communication Skills

Without a thorough knowledge of physical fitness training, one cannot achieve one’s goal. Sound knowledge, expertise, and excellent communication skills are assets for a Personal Trainer. He has the ability to communicate with his valued clients easily.

A good Personal Trainer works together with his clients to get their particular fitness results and has the ability to deliver his message to them. Effective communication skills are significant because they can enable the trainer to lead a person purposefully.

What Personal Trainers need to stay focused on 2021!

15 January

NPTI Florida (Orlando/Tampa) owner Patrick Sherman understands that many people have been significantly affected financially in the past 2020 year. With many lives turned upside down for the last nine months and counting, it’s difficult to know what tomorrow will bring to most. NPTI Florida knows that Health and Wellness is extremely important now than it’s ever been. We can’t afford to just sit back and wait for the world to get back to normal. Personal Trainers must keep moving forward-for their clients. While many things remain out of our control, those who stay focused on their personal training business will rise to the top in 2021. Your current clients and prospective clients will actively be seeking new ways to reach their fitness goals while training from home. Remote coaching is a must in the New Year. With many staying and working from home fewer people are going to big box gyms. But people who are home still have the same excuses and problems of finding time to get healthy. As a Fitness professional you need to guide, your clients, coach them, hold them accountable and support them in achieving their fitness goals.

The greatest opportunity for Personal Trainers in 2021 is no doubt on-line coaching. Covid19 has taught us that we must incorporate this component into our business model. As Fitness professionals, we all need video streaming platforms. Personal Trainers also need an online membership platform such as an app where clients can access live and recorded workouts. This will allow clients to access training planning, monitoring and even motivation. This also allows for more people to be reached than ever before. Trainers must also embrace outdoor training. Intensive training in particular is much less dangerous outside than indoors. Stay focused and help as many people as possible become Healthy again and the money will follow.

Winter Workout Tips: Stay Active and Safe with NPTI in Orlando and Tampa, Florida

18 December

Workouts don’t have to stop when the temperatures take a dip. Outdoor sports are able to continue as usual with a few extra steps to winterize your outdoor workouts so that you can help stay protected from the colder and less desirable elements. Frigid temperatures typically discourage even the most motivated exercisers. Personal training and fitness programs must be modified to address colder climate workouts and extreme conditions. Working with a personal training professional can help take a lot of the guesswork out of how to train or what to wear in the cold for a winter workout.

Transitioning to a Winter Workout: Tips from NPTI Florida

Here are a few tips from NPTI Florida to help you transition your outdoor workouts to survive the winter weather.

Check the Forecast First

Step One: Always check the forecast before heading outside. Temperature, wind, and moisture, along with the length of time that you’ll be outside, are key factors in planning a safe cold-weather fitness routine.

Dressing Appropriately for the Cold

Layer Up: Wear appropriate base layers. Layers are crucial for a winter workout. They regulate body temperature and keep you dry. Wool or wool-blended materials should be used as your first base layer.

Avoid Overdressing: Don’t overdress. Opt for lightweight insulated vests over bulky coats for better breathability.

Don’t Forget Hats and Gloves: Cover your head and hands. Most body heat is lost through the head, so wearing a hat can help retain body heat longer. Windproof and lined gloves are essential for protecting your hands.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is Key: Remember to stay hydrated even in cold weather. Dehydration can affect performance and stamina. Ensure your water doesn’t freeze by using insulated encasements for hydration bottles or flasks.

Recognizing the Signs

Know the Signs: Understand the signs of frostbite and hypothermia. Early warning signs include numbness, loss of feeling, or a stinging sensation for frostbite, while hypothermia symptoms include intense shivering, slurred speech, and fatigue.

Conclusion

These are just a few ideas to help winterize your outdoor workouts so that you can enjoy a winter workout while staying safe and comfortable in the cold. Contact NPTI Florida to learn more or to enroll in the best Florida personal training certification program with locations in Orlando and Tampa.

NPTI Florida’s Tips for Avoiding the Flu This Season

14 December

Protect Yourself from the Flu: Tips from NPTI Florida

As many as 45 million Americans are affected by the flu each year, equating to approximately 5-9% of the population. Here are some suggestions from NPTI Florida to help reduce your risk of falling ill.

Understanding the Flu

The flu is a viral infection of the respiratory tract that can cause fever, chills, body aches, headaches, and a cough. While it typically lasts 5 to 7 days, symptoms can linger for 2 to 3 weeks.

Minimize Your Risk

Frequent handwashing and getting a flu vaccination are essential steps, but there’s more you can do as we head into winter.

Tips to Stay Healthy from NPTI Florida

1. Avoid Sick Individuals

NPTI Owner Pat Sherman advises staying away from sick people to prevent encountering the flu.

2. Promote Good Hygiene Practices

Ensure sick individuals stay home from gyms or fitness centers to prevent the spread of the flu, which can linger on surfaces for up to 8 hours.

3. Prioritize Sleep

Get 7-8 hours of restful sleep each night to support your immune system.

4. Nasal Passage Cleansing

Use a neti pot with saline solution to cleanse your nasal passage and prevent viral particles from entering your respiratory system.

5. Boost Your Immunity

Consider drinking bone broth and adding probiotics to your diet to strengthen your immune system.

6. Stay Active

Regular exercise can help dispel bacteria from your respiratory system and positively impact your immune system.

7. Practice Proper Hand Hygiene

Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for at least 30 seconds, especially upon entering a new environment, before eating, and after using the restroom.

The Signs of a Bad Personal Trainer

15 September

The reality of the fitness industry is that without enforced Personal Training regulation, the consumer is at risk. Considering there are no minimum educational requirements; the number of bad trainers seem to outnumber the educated qualified trainers. Sadly, those who pay the price are the unsuspecting clients who waste their time, spend their money, and put their health at risk with these uneducated Personal Trainers.

Characteristics of an Ineffective Personal Trainer

It is hard for the consumer to always know how to pre-qualify a Personal Trainer prior to the first training session. Here are a few characteristics of a trainer you would not want to engage with for professional services:

#1 Lack of Assessments

They do not offer any assessments. The best Personal Trainers perform thorough and complete assessments when working with a new client.

#2 Absence of Demonstrated Success or Experience

They cannot demonstrate previous success or experience. The best Personal Trainers keep detailed statistics of their clients.

#3 Reliance Solely on Certification

They only have a “Certification” without formal education or hands-on experience. Look for a Personal Trainer who has formal education in exercise science, nutrition, rehab, and program design.

#4 Poor Personal Health

The Trainer isn’t healthy or fit. Just like realtors who’ve never owned a home and a financial planner who is broke; out of shape trainers are everywhere.

#5 Failure to Distinguish Between Outcome and Behavior Goals

Trainers must know the difference between an outcome and a behavior. If the Trainer doesn’t know the difference between the two, they will not be able to give you attainable steps to reach your goal.

#6 Lack of Long-Term Planning

Trainers must have a 3-month plan from the start. The best trainers will have at least at minimum a 3-month fitness plan based on your level, needs, and goals.

#7 Neglect of Progress Tracking

Trainers must track progress and results. Clients are paying for measurable results.

#8 Separation of Training and Nutrition

They do not integrate training and nutrition. Exercise alone doesn’t work.

#9 Lack of Care

They don’t care. Most trainers don’t care about being great at their jobs.

How to price your Personal Training

19 August

All Personal Trainers at some point will have to set their own personal training price. Time is your most valuable asset. How much you charge clients is probably the most important decision you make. If your session price is too low, you may have a booked schedule; but not enough income to support your expenses and cost of living. If you price your sessions high or significantly higher than everyone else in town you may not get enough clients to support your business. Do not select your fees based on what you think your clients are willing to pay. You must invest time in researching industry trends and local marketability for the industry. NPTI Florida (Orlando/Tampa) owner Patrick Sherman suggests starting with a few basic steps:

Step 1: Do some research.

Clients will pay vastly different rates for goods and services depending on your location. Unfortunately, there is no single guide to reference this information locally. I suggest visiting other like business websites and document their fees for service. Research the associated fees for 6-10 like businesses that offer Personal Training in your area. Take several notes about pricing, services offered, experience, and how you perceive their personal training programming and facility. NPTI also suggests visiting the facility and location as well.

Step 2: Do the math.

The top three factors to consider when setting your session prices if you want to succeed:

What are your associated costs/expenses?
Write down all your monthly costs for your Personal Training business. This should include everything from rent, gas, utilities, phone, internet, trash, water, printing, website, SEO, cell phone, staff, salaries, education, license fees, equipment, insurance, cleaning, etc. Some expenses may be broken out as quarterly or annual.

How much do you need to earn?
Many Personal Trainers consider themselves in the business to help others and not get rich? This is the
time to be honest with yourself. No one starts a business to have a modest life or low-income career. If your goal is a six-figure salary, then work toward that goal incrementally.

How many hours are you willing to train?
Once again, be honest with yourself. Did you go into business to work 8 hours or 12 hours a day? Based on your above calculations and number. You can calculate what needs to be done to achieve your income potential as follows:

Personal Training Price per hour equals = (your costs plus + how much you need to earn) / (number of hours you are committed to train).

Most importantly, if you have invested in your future by becoming an educated highly trained personal
trainer; then your clients will recognize the difference and be willing to pay for your time. Stand out
from the crowd, make a difference, and your client base will grow.
