How to Set Realistic Goals for Your Personal Training Career

08 July

Every personal trainer, whether they’re a seasoned professional or a recent graduate of NPTI Florida (Orlando/Tampa) locations with a personal trainer certification, understands the paramount significance of establishing goals. The act of goal-setting is the cornerstone of future success in the field of personal training.

Personal Training Goals: The Linchpin of Success

Before embarking on the journey of marketing your personal training business to potential clients, it is imperative to establish precise objectives that will serve as your guiding star. These objectives not only provide a sense of direction but also furnish you with a well-defined roadmap toward achieving success. Without such goals in place, it can be challenging to discern which steps are truly propelling your business forward. As a personal trainer, we highly recommend setting three distinct types of goals: short-term, long-term, and revenue-based objectives.

Short-Term vs. Long-Term Goals

Setting short-term goals serves as a potent motivational tool and ensures that you remain steadfast in your daily efforts. NPTI Florida suggests a 90-day timeframe for short-term goals. This approach facilitates the breakdown of your overarching goal, such as signing up 15 new clients in the next 90 days, into daily, weekly, and monthly tasks, enabling you to monitor your progress more effectively.

Long-term goals offer you a sense of direction, anticipate potential obstacles, and foster a heightened sense of urgency. These goals are typically achievable within a span of 2 to 5 years and act as the growth blueprint for your personal training enterprise. It is imperative that you grasp the essence of your long-term goals and how they will contribute to the expansion of your business and brand. For instance, if your long-term objective is to develop a million-dollar personal training business with ten trainers under your wing, breaking this grand ambition into smaller, manageable milestones will reveal the weekly and monthly tasks that must be accomplished.

Revenue goals stand as the cornerstone of your business aspirations. NPTI Florida recommends the regular monitoring of monthly and yearly revenue targets. To establish these goals, it is crucial to define your pricing structure for training clients, after which you can calculate your annual income objectives. For example, if you aim to earn $100,000 annually, you would need to charge approximately $60 per client hour and commit to a minimum of 40 training hours per week. This can further be broken down into monthly and weekly figures to ensure continuous tracking of your progress.

Developing Your Goals

When delineating your career goals, adhere to the following principles:

  1. Specificity: Keep your goals sharply focused and well-defined.
  2. Measurability: Regularly track your progress and maintain accountability.
  3. Attainability: Set goals that are ambitious enough to motivate and challenge you daily.
  4. Relevance: Ensure that your goals align with the specific objectives of your personal training business.

Setting Personal Training Goals

01 July

Setting and achieving goals is paramount in the realm of personal training, especially when pursuing a personal trainer certification in Florida, such as NPTI Florida (Orlando/Tampa). While we diligently assist our clients in realizing their health and fitness objectives, it’s easy to overlook the importance of setting goals for our own personal and business growth.

Whether you’re an aspiring personal trainer or an experienced one, the ability to establish effective goals is pivotal for a flourishing career. At NPTI Florida, we are dedicated to guiding students and trainers alike in the art of crafting realistic objectives tailored to their personal training endeavors.

Three Key Goals to Embrace as a NPTI Florida Personal Trainer

Before embarking on the journey of marketing your personal training services to prospective clients, it’s imperative to define specific goals that will act as your compass.

Goals imbue your professional life with direction and purpose, allowing you to gauge the effectiveness of your marketing endeavors. NPTI Florida strongly advocates setting three distinct types of goals: short-term, long-term, and revenue-related objectives.

1. Long-term Goals

Long-term goals provide clarity, insight into potential obstacles, and a profound sense of purpose. These are the concrete outcomes you aim to achieve over the span of 2 to 5 years while managing your personal training enterprise.

It’s advisable to review your long-term goals quarterly, as this practice will invigorate your motivation and enable you to make any necessary adjustments to remain on course.

For instance, if your ultimate ambition is to operate your own personal training business with a team of trainers, you can break down this long-term aspiration into smaller monthly goals, adapting your strategies accordingly.

2. Short-term Goals

Short-term goals serve as the daily compass to steer you towards your desired outcomes. They delineate the specific tasks you must undertake to achieve targeted results within daily or weekly intervals.

A highly effective approach is to set end-of-month goals, allowing you to identify the daily actions required to advance steadily toward your monthly objectives. For instance, if your goal is to acquire 6 new clients in a month, you can break it down into daily and weekly tasks, determining how many prospects you need to engage and convert into paying clients.

3. Revenue Goals

Establishing monthly, quarterly, and yearly revenue targets is essential.

As a personal trainer, these objectives are contingent on the financial requirements for sustaining your business and covering personal living expenses. For example, if your annual income goal exceeds $100,000, you would need to charge clients $60 per hour/session and bill an average of 40 hours weekly.

By dividing this figure by 12, you can calculate your monthly income, which in this scenario would be $10,000. To provide even greater clarity, dividing $10,000 by 30 reveals the daily income needed to meet your annual revenue goal.

Working Out at Work: A Real Perk

17 June

NPTI Florida, with campuses in both Orlando and Tampa, has observed a growing trend among corporations: the integration of fitness facilities within their office spaces. This shift is part of a broader movement to promote employee health and well-being, while also providing innovative benefits that enhance employee retention. Many companies are establishing in-house fitness centers as part of their perks program, offering employees the convenience of working out at work. These fitness facilities not only encourage a healthy lifestyle but also serve as communal hubs that foster camaraderie and team spirit among employees.

The Impact of On-Site Fitness Facilities on Employee Wellness

Corporate fitness centers often form the core of comprehensive “Wellness Programs” that aim to improve overall employee health. By implementing such programs, companies can significantly reduce their insurance costs. This approach has been shown to decrease the number of sick days taken and enhance productivity, all while alleviating work-related stress. A 2016 study revealed that 36 percent of the workforce experiences stress related to job responsibilities, which leads to an annual loss of $30 billion in lost work days for U.S. businesses. By providing the option of working out at work, companies are actively contributing to a healthier and more productive workforce.

The Role of Certified Personal Trainers in Corporate Fitness Programs

With the increasing adoption of in-house fitness facilities, there is a growing demand for certified Personal Trainers to oversee these programs. Certified trainers not only guide employees through effective workouts but also help them set and achieve their fitness goals. Their expertise ensures that employees are using equipment safely and maximizing their fitness potential. This trend has created a new and exciting opportunity for aspiring personal trainers, especially in Florida, where NPTI offers comprehensive certification programs tailored to meet the needs of corporate fitness.

How to Stay Fit in the Gym in 2019

13 June

You’re creating the new you in 2019. You’ve made your New Year’s resolutions and are committed to being a part of the eight percent (8%) of people who actually achieve their goal.. Chances are that one of your ambitions entails exercising more— after all, the top resolution of most Americans was to improve their personal fitness and nutrition in the New Year.

Given the widespread interest in personal fitness and nutrition, it’s crucial to consider how to maintain your health while engaging in personal training sessions. This will help you adhere to your fitness regimen and steer clear of interruptions due to illness or injury. Here are several strategies to ensure you stay fit and on track:

  1. Select the Appropriate Exercise Equipment and Learn Its Proper Usage: While creativity can be an asset in achieving your fitness objectives, it’s essential to avoid becoming one of those individuals who misuse fitness equipment. Not only can improper usage lead to potential injuries, but it might even land you in a YouTube fail video. Consider enlisting the guidance of a certified personal trainer to maximize your workout’s effectiveness.
  2. Maintain the Safety and Condition of Your Equipment: Building on the previous tip, it’s imperative to ensure that all your exercise gear, ranging from free weights to running shoes, remains in optimal working condition. Possessing the right equipment won’t suffice if it’s in disrepair, as this could result in significant harm or personal injury.
  3. Prioritize Equipment Hygiene: This advice is particularly relevant for gym-goers but also holds importance for individuals with home-based workout spaces. Gyms can become breeding grounds for germs due to the profuse sweating, heavy breathing, and shared equipment usage. To mitigate the risk, utilize disinfectant sprays available at the gym to clean equipment after use, and consider carrying a small bottle of hand sanitizer for added protection. Don’t solely rely on the gym’s cleaning protocols to safeguard your health.
  4. Stay Hydrated: It goes without saying that proper hydration is paramount, yet sometimes people become so engrossed in their workouts that they neglect to replenish their fluids adequately. Drinking water during your gym sessions is essential, but remember to consume water throughout the day as well. Be cautious with sports drinks, which often contain unhealthy ingredients like corn syrup and artificial colorings. While they may be necessary for more strenuous workouts, choose wisely when to include them in your routine.
  5. Adopt a Well-Balanced Diet: Your body requires adequate fuel to support your exercise regimen. Ensure your diet is balanced and provides the necessary daily calories to complement your fitness routines. Consulting with a certified personal trainer can provide valuable dietary guidance.
  6. Prioritize Enjoyment: Workouts should not feel like a burdensome chore but rather an activity you eagerly anticipate. Keep your exercise routine dynamic and monitor your progress closely. The results you achieve will motivate you to return day after day.

By following these recommendations, you can maintain your health and fitness trajectory throughout the New Year, working towards your personal training goals, including your Florida personal trainer certification if that’s part of your ambition. Contact us to learn more.

How to Exercise While Traveling in 2019

11 June

Staying on track with your fitness goals while traveling demands careful planning, unwavering commitment, adaptability, and a touch of creativity. If you’re someone with a personal trainer certification or pursuing one, maintaining your exercise routine on the go is crucial. Let’s face it, finding the perfect gym or ideal fitness environment during your travels can be challenging. However, regardless of the circumstances, it’s imperative to prioritize your health, manage your weight, combat stress, conquer jet lag, and stick to your daily fitness regimen.

Selecting a hotel with a well-equipped fitness center largely depends on the city and the hotel brand. If you’re accustomed to utilizing equipment like treadmills, stationary bikes, and ellipticals and prefer not to venture outdoors in an unfamiliar city for your workouts, it’s wise to scrutinize the hotel’s website for photos of their fitness facilities before making a reservation.

Keep in mind that you can still achieve an effective workout in the comfort of your hotel room. While it may not offer the ideal setting, it’s a viable option that should never deter you from staying active. Most hotels offer equipment that you can borrow, or you can bring along a few compact fitness items. Alternatively, you can rely solely on bodyweight exercises to ensure you stay on track. At NPTI Florida, our personal training certification programs instill a mindset of creativity in our trainers, enabling them to design tailored workout routines for their clients who are constantly on the move, ensuring they remain active even while traveling.

The combination of exercise and combatting jet lag might seem counterintuitive to some travelers. Those who’ve experienced jet lag firsthand understand that the last thing you may feel like doing after a long flight is working out. However, exercise is a potent weapon against the effects of jet lag. It not only helps stimulate your body but also synchronizes your internal clock with the local time. So, no matter where your travels take you or which hotel you find yourself in, remember that you can always find time to invigorate your body through exercise. Let the light into your room, signaling your body to “Get up and wake up.”

Wherever your travels may lead, whether it’s in Orlando or Tampa, NPTI Florida wishes you safe and active journeys, and if you’re considering a career in personal training, don’t forget to explore our Florida personal trainer certification programs to kickstart your fitness journey.

Suspension Training in 2019: Revolutionizing Fitness and Rehabilitation

16 May

Suspension Training, often regarded as a necessity rather than a passing trend in 2018, has gained widespread recognition. It offers the unique capability to engage in a diverse array of multiplanar, compound movements, utilizing solely one’s body weight. This technique has permeated rehabilitation centers globally and has become a staple in most fitness facilities. The profound benefits of Suspension Training encompass enhancing core strength, reducing the risk of injuries, and elevating stability, strength, and flexibility.

The Suspension Training apparatus empowers individuals to target and train stabilizer muscles with a functional and highly effective approach. Consequently, it serves as an invaluable tool for rehabilitation specialists, personal trainers, group instructors, and their clients.

Curious about what Suspension Training entails? NPTI Florida has been at the forefront of live Continuing Education Unit (CEU) workshops for over a decade, and our Suspension Training program stands as one of our most sought-after offerings. This fitness modality primarily employs adjustable straps, easily affixed to various anchor points, such as doors or other stable fixtures. These straps enable individuals to harness their own body weight against gravity, enabling suspended workouts. Are you in search of an innovative and engaging approach to train your personal training clients? Look no further—NPTI Florida (Orlando/Tampa) is here to guide you towards becoming a certified Suspension Trainer in the upcoming year. Encouraging Health and Wellness for Kids: A Guide for Busy Parents

01 April

As a parent, you are a role model, and this influence extends to fostering healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle, especially when you’re pursuing a personal trainer certification or participating in personal training certification programs in Florida. Children tend to absorb more from your actions than your words. Thus, it’s crucial to motivate them to embrace a health-conscious way of life, including daily vegetable consumption.

Balancing the demands of parenthood, household management, work, and other daily commitments can be incredibly challenging, making it difficult to allocate time for physical activities and personal training. However, it’s essential to prioritize exercise. One effective strategy to do so without sacrificing family time is to transform it into a family event or activity. This approach not only emphasizes the significance of physical fitness to your children and spouse but also establishes healthy habits that are likely to persist into their adulthood, especially if you’re pursuing a Florida personal trainer certification.

By involving the entire family in these activities, you ensure that exercise becomes an enjoyable, shared experience. This approach benefits everyone, reinforcing the importance of personal training and a healthy lifestyle while accommodating the demands of parenthood and other responsibilities.

NPTI Florida’s Approach to Personal Training

12 February

When we think of Personal Trainers, we often imagine super fit people. But things are changing in 2019. In Florida, there are Personal Trainers who graduated from NPTI and happen to be moms starting their own businesses. The point is, personal training isn’t just for one type of person.

Patrick Sherman, who owns NPTI Florida in Orlando and Tampa, says that the fitness business is still pretty new. People are realizing the importance of staying healthy. Many of us spend too much time sitting at our desks, driving to work, and not moving enough.

This lack of physical activity is causing more health problems like bad backs, hip and knee issues, and chronic diseases. NPTI Florida teaches its students how to help people exercise safely, how to check their bodies properly, and how to understand their clients’ health needs. In 2019, personal training isn’t a luxury; it’s becoming a must-have.

In addition to the evolving landscape of personal training, it’s essential to shed light on the significance of personal trainer certification. Florida personal trainer certification programs, like the one offered by NPTI, play a pivotal role in shaping the fitness industry. These programs equip aspiring trainers with the knowledge and skills required to excel in their roles. By completing a Florida personal trainer certification program, individuals not only enhance their credibility but also demonstrate their commitment to providing safe and effective personal training services. As the demand for qualified trainers continues to rise, obtaining proper Florida personal trainer certification becomes increasingly indispensable in establishing a successful career in personal training.

NPTI Florida is committed to telling people what Personal Trainers do and why they’re essential in today’s world.

Why the Fitness Industry is Booming in 2019

18 January

The $30 billion-dollar health and fitness industry in the U.S. has been growing by at least 3-4% annually for the past decade and will continue to increase year after year. 20% of the U.S. adults have health club and fitness club memberships. NPTI Florida believes this could easily double in the next 8-15 years. The industry is booming because new fitness centers are opening in every metropolitan city. Investors are also taking advantage of this opportunity to invest in new development. Our NPTI Florida graduates state that healthy people cost much less to insure, and employers and insurers have finally realized that they can trim insurance costs by incentivizing in hiring a Personal Trainer.

Personal Trainers nationwide are also seeing the demand for healthy foods and meal programs. This trend is pulling away from processed food and the increase in healthier, more natural and or organic food choices. This will allow trainers, clients, to start thinking more carefully about dietary decisions.

The U.S. consumer is also happy to have more budget-friendly fitness center options. The industry is using the term High value, low price membership clubs. These clubs are attracting trainers and members as well thanks to the cost-effective monthly fees. These clubs offer a great value for the equipment, classes, and offered amenities. NPTI owner Pat Sherman believes these clubs will continue to grow and dominate in this market place.

The current U.S. health and fitness facility count is roughly 32,000 strong. This count does not factor the thousands of boutique studios and CrossFit centers. NPTI Florida believes this number will possibly double over the next decade. This is great news for Personal Trainers nationwide. The best part of this is so many more Americans will live longer by becoming healthier.

Training Veterans to Become Personal Trainers for Over 17 Years

14 March

Maintaining a regular exercise routine is paramount, regardless of one’s life circumstances, owing to the multitude of benefits associated with consistent physical activity. At the National Personal Training Institute (NPTI) in Orlando and Tampa, Florida, we go beyond the traditional concept of personal training certifications. For nearly two decades, NPTI has been dedicated to providing educational certifications tailored specifically for veterans. Our institute is not only veteran-owned but is also staffed by veterans on a daily basis.

Transitioning from active military duty can often be a challenging process. To facilitate this transition and help veterans reintegrate into civilian life, the National Personal Training Institute has developed a specialized Personal Trainer Certification program exclusively for veterans.

According to data from the United States Department of Labor, the veteran unemployment rate stood at 4% in early 2018. To address this issue and support veterans in their journey to civilian careers, NPTI offers a comprehensive Personal Training Diploma Certification program.

Veterans possess distinct advantages over other aspiring personal trainers. They have already met numerous prerequisites for obtaining this certification during their service, including maintaining rigorous physical fitness standards and demonstrating exceptional work ethic.

The personal training industry demands qualities such as patience and discipline, characteristics that veterans abundantly possess. Completing our rigorous program ensures a pathway to a high-income potential career. However, veterans must meet specific educational requirements before entering the fitness industry.

Veteran Benefits

Veteran Owned Business

Veterans can take advantage of benefits like the Post 9/11 GI Bill, which makes higher education more accessible. According to the US Department of Veteran Affairs, if you have served at least three months on aggregate post 9/11 and remain on active duty or were honorably discharged, you are eligible for a veterans-administered program.

Our 600-Hour Personal Training Certification program is an approved FAFSA program. Veterans who apply and qualify for financial aid may be eligible for Pell grants and loans.

Additionally, NPTI Orlando, Florida offers student housing that qualifies for Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for all veterans enrolled at our institute, whether they are coming from out of state or an international country.
